The mystery quilt revealed!

Have you ever worked with flannel? Ok wait.. have you ever made an entire quilt top with flannel? I hadn't until now...Since last October I have been receiving an installment a month from Border Creek Station.

 imagine..
320  1 1/5 inch squares...
162  3 inch half square triangles...

Yeeeaup. Me and Mr.Seam Ripper have been very good friends. There were a few hairy moments where I thought I was going to lose my sanity.. I just kept sewing the wrong things..bags are mixed up. I was in a fetal position at one point. But I got 'er done! And boy has it turned out to be a beauty.

Alot of interesting things to learn when working with flannel. The best one was STARCH! This made my life SO much easier when it came to cutting and sewing..

I was moving my fabric around today and just put a big fat grin on my face...There is something really awesome about rainbows.. and more awesome when they're just scattered around everywhere.

so you get this

to this..

Getting on with the flowers as Pride Parade is creeping up slowly!!! I am so excited! I can't wait!

Dear Boss,

Me and Quilt had a big fight last night. He tried to blame it on Instructions and me but she ( Instructions ) said that Quilt just never ever listens, especially when he goes hanging out past 11 at night near Sewing Machine. Sewing Machine can REALLY have a mind of its own and will just go on it's on tangent. Sewing Machine and Instructions have a bit of a funny relationship.. when it's good it's great when it's bad it's terrible. She really is good at drawing you in.. she draws you in and when you think it's a really good idea you can walk away from Sewing Machine and realize it was all a BIG mistake. I've had a few fights with her and BOY can she create one big MESS!!

AS for Quilt... I'm not sure who is to blame at the moment. All I know is Seam Ripper will be visiting and intervening tonight and claims he is ready to rip right into Quilt and find out where it all went wrong. He'll tear it all apart at the seams so we can all start from Square one... if not Quilt has backup called Stash that is wiling to come and help repair the damage if it can't be sorted out.

Instructions keeps piping up " I told you so, you never listen to me." it's kinda a big mess. Between that and Iron trying to commit suicide last night by jumping off the board.. it's been kind of a stressful night.

This is why Quilt will not be coming into work with me today.

Giveaway Winner

Oh wow what a weekend! I got alot of exposure much thanks to the people at Craftzine and messages poured in with support and compliments!! How awesome! Thank you all so much for your kind words. A good number of patterns were sold and it is only a matter of time before we start seeing more "Jack" quilts popping up!! Wheeee!!!

Ok on to more interesting things like winners!!

Congrats to Ciara Baron! I'll be sending a message your way shortly for mailing details!

Did I mention I picked up another hobby a few weeks ago...

Yup.. Locker hooking.

I picked it up several months ago and just did a little guy, but now picked up a larger netting and had an evening with it... Sigh... another for the list of doom. I decided to start that list because it always seems to be expanding faster than I can make things and take it off the list... and it feels ever so slightly dooming.

And you thought your wedding dress was cool....

This wedding dress was made from a nylon parachute that saved the groom's life during World War II. Maj. Claude Hensinger, a B-29 pilot, and his crew, were returning from a bombing raid over Yowata, Japan, in August 1944 when their engine caught fire. The crew was forced to bail out. It was night and Major Hensinger landed on some rocks and suffered some minor injuries. During the night he used the parachute both as a pillow and a blanket. In the morning the crew was able to reassemble and were taken in by some friendly Chinese. He kept the parachute and used it as a way to propose to Ruth in 1947. He presented it to her and suggested she make a gown out of it for their wedding.
She wondered how she was going to make "this voluminuous item" into a dress. Seeing a dress in a store window that was based on one that appeared in the movie Gone with the Wind, she patterned her dress after that. She hired a local seamstress, Hilda Buck, to make the bodice and veil. She made the skirt herself; she pulled up the strings on the parachute so that the dress would be shorter in the front and have a train in the back. The couple were married in the Neffs Lutheran Church in Neffs, Pennslyvania, July 19, 1947. Their daughter and their son's bride also wore the dress for their weddings.

Post Update: What a small world this is.. it turns out my coworker was friends with Claude and Ruth's daughter who got married in this dress!! She commented that it still had stains from blood where he had wounded himself on the way down. How incredible? she was AT the wedding?? This story still gives me chills and heart bumps.

This is an idea I've had for a long time and one that I plan to develop into a quilt this summer. This soft blue polka a dot is just in love with me.... ok maybe I am in love with it.. but whatever.. It's made the most awesome set of pillows. Aren't they just the fun-est? ( take that spell check )

I'm pretty excited and stoked to see these pretty little birds on my couch.

Do you need a strawberry Planter?

Its better than Christmas for me at the moment in my "garden". Last month I inherited a whack of strawberry plants and they have been sitting in shallow pots waiting for their new home.

I wanted to purchase a few of those topsy turvy planters that look super cool but I had one of those "visions" where you can't do anything but that vision, and this vision entailed a ice cream bucket... odd?

Now it's not the prettiest of planters.. but I'm pretty happy with it. BEHOLD upcycled strawberry planted holder!! Which cost a whole... 25 cents!

Mr.Aftercraft was so kind as to build it for me as I photographed.

We made holes on the side of the buckets with a crazy drill bit, this however could totally be done via a pair of scissors.

Then we put holes in the bottom for drainage.

We stuffed the bucket with weed mesh which can purchased from anywhere that has garden supplies and fill it with dirt.

Then we took the plastic circles from when we made the holes and stuffed them back in for support.

We cut holes into the mesh...

and planted the strawberries on the sides and put a few on top.

I LOVE fresh picked strawberries.. especially from my own garden!
